The following teaching clinics are run by the ISU Department of Family Medicine as part of our Patient Services Division.

The Pocatello Family Medicine Clinic serves as the family medicine center for the residency program. There are eighteen exam rooms, one procedure room, two nurses stations and a preceptor room that divides the clinic. The clinic uses electronic medical records. There are separate areas for health education and nutrition counseling and faculty offices, including work areas for our psychologist and head of the clinic. The Portneuf Medical Center Prenatal Clinic is also housed in the Family Practice Center.
Specialty clinics in dermatology, ENT, neurology, women’s health, gynecology, colposcopy are organized. Pharmacotherapeutic services are also offered from the Family Practice Center.
Our pharmacy faculty, Dr. Hachey, and our infectious disease consultant, Dr. Buitrago, provide complete HIV services to the HIV population of Southeast Idaho. Residents are involved in the care and management of these patients and get longitudinal teaching on the Family Practice Center rotation.
The Portneuf Medical Center Prenatal Clinic services are offered through the Family Practice Center under the leadership of Dr. Dyer, obstetric faculty. Residents pick up their own prenatal patients that they follow through pregnancy, delivery, and post-partum.
Dr. Jean Bokelmann and the residency director, Dr. Cree, have added certificationg in geriatrics and provide in-depth geriatric teaching to the Medicare population of the clinic, the nursing homes and in patient’s homes.
With the help of the Womens Health Initiative grant, Dr. Jean Bokelmann organizes womens health visits and specific GYN interventions including colposcopy, LEEP and cryotherapy. There is an in-depth curriculum in the management of abnormal PAP smears that gives residents the opportunity to become competent in managing this area of their practice.
There is a very active inpatient medicine service.
Dr. Tony Joseph is a sports medicine specialist with the added certificate who works with our residency program, Student Health and local orthopedists. He teaches the residents casts in our casts clinic on the Family Practice Center chief rotation and takes residents to local sports events to make them competent in the sports medicine field, evaluations and treatment.
Dr. John Dickey is the humanities faculty. He provides personal, private services to his patients and is a referral and teaching source to residents for psychological services.
Our links with the ISU Department of Health Education and Nutrition allow us to use Renee Covey who is ISU faculty and provides services to our pregnant patients, diabetics, obese, hyper-cholesterol and any other referral needs that are made from the clinic.
