Community Medicine and Psychiatry
Community Medicine and Psychiatry rotations take up two full-week rotations in the intern year, a one-week vacation is taken in each of the rotations. The community medicine rotation in the first six months is focused on residents learning community resources that they can access for their patients during the subsequent three years of residency. These include:
Home health agencies
Hospice
Epidemiology, specifically for sexually transmitted diseases
Health education and nutrition
Developmental pediatrics
Pharmacotherapeutics resources
The rotation in the second six months of the year that is more devoted to psychiatry, includes time with Dr. Carter in the Human Development Center, Dr. Hazle in the Inpatient Psychiatric Unit, Dr. Palmer in his private practice of adolescent psychiatry and Dr. Ravsten in the Blackfoot South inpatient unit. Both rotations involve video taping and specific readings in psychiatry. Dr. John Dickey, the Director of Humanities, supervises this rotation, which is a popular change from the arduous clinical rotations of the intern year.
